Component Test, Fracture Simulation and Experimental Study on Steel and Shear Panel for Seismic Resistance

Abstract This paper summarizes the experimental campaign carried out for development of a new steel energy dissipative devices named Slit Dampers (SDs) designed earthquake protection structures. SDs consist in shear plates with appropriately shaped cut‐out portions material allowing maximum spread plastic deformation along device and then maximizing hysteretic behavior. A total eighty‐two different openings thicknesses are tested to investigate their behavior under cyclic pseudo‐static loading. Six types studied, including SD narrow slits that divide plate into rectangular links, butterfly fuse diamond‐shaped opening create shape links plate. Other varying test parameters are: loading rate, strength, number in‐parallel damper elements. It is expected proposed model can be successfully used predict dampers real‐world applications.
